Reading the label / A practical guide

Know what
you’re taking.

You don’t need to memorize the label. Start with the serving size, then read the ingredient names and amounts. Here’s how to make sense of them.

01 / Establish the measure

First, define
one serving.

A quantity makes sense when you know what it refers to. On a Supplement Facts panel, the serving size establishes that reference: the amount of product represented by the ingredient quantities below.

In hūma, the three measures are 15 mL for the daily liquids, 2 mL for the concentrates, and one 60 mL bottle for the ready shot. Keep the daily serving in view as you read; the bottle’s total volume describes the whole container.

The formula amounts apply to the 2 mL serving, not the entire bottle.

02 / Name and form

The parentheses
have a purpose.

Vitamin D3. As cholecalciferol. The first identifies the nutrient; the second specifies its form. Daily D3 + K2 uses the same pairing for vitamin K2, listed as menaquinone-7. Together, the name and form tell you more than either alone.

Sometimes the added detail identifies a plant part or extract. Daily Gut lists ginger rhizome extract 4:1 and peppermint leaf extract. Daily Defense identifies Wellmune® as baker’s yeast beta glucan. Each description distinguishes a named material from the broader ingredient category.

03 / Put numbers in context

The amount.
And the reference.

Milligrams (mg) and micrograms (mcg) are units of mass. A milligram equals 1,000 micrograms. Read the unit with the number when comparing ingredients.

Percent Daily Value (% DV) places the amount in one serving against an established daily reference value. It gives the quantity another point of reference; it is not an additional ingredient.

An ingredient can have a stated amount without an established Daily Value. In the hūma tables, the dagger symbol (†) marks that distinction. Read the amount and the reference as separate pieces of information.

Two entries / Two kinds of reference

04 / Keep the complete picture

Flavor is one detail.
The full label matters.

Flavor and active formula answer different questions. Daily Multi’s Blackberry Elderberry flavor describes the serving experience; its active formula lists eight vitamins and minerals. Daily Gut’s Pear Ginger flavor includes a name that also appears in its active formula: ginger, specified separately as an extract. The flavor name alone tells you neither the active form nor its amount.

The active ingredient tables on this site are guides to the listed actives. They do not reproduce every part of the product label. Read the complete package for other ingredients, directions, storage instructions, and warnings.

Keep the label available when discussing supplements with your healthcare professional, particularly if you take medicines or use more than one supplement.

05 / Compare the composition

Shared ingredients.
Different formulas.

A shared ingredient is a reason to look more closely. Daily Multi and Daily D3 + K2 both list vitamin D3 and K2 at matching per-serving amounts. Their complete formulas and serving volumes differ, so the shared nutrients tell only part of the story.

Daily Defense and Immunity Boost share five active ingredients at matching listed amounts. Immunity Boost also lists Setria® Glutathione. Its serving is a 60 mL shot; Daily Defense uses a 2 mL concentrate.

Our collection comparison places up to three products side by side, including their active ingredients and quantities. Read across a shared ingredient, then down each complete formula. A comparison is not a recommendation to combine the products.
